Ian

From a studio high above the clouds of the Okanagan Valley. This is the cannabis potcast.

00;00;09;01 - 00;00;19;20

Ian

Exploring the world of Canadian cannabis culture. One toke at a time. Here is your host and Bud tender Gary Johnston.

00;00;19;22 - 00;00;38;23

Gary Johnston

And let me welcome you to the Cannabis Potcast. Maybe it's your first time. Perhaps it's your 50th time. In either case, I am so happy to have you as a listener. Thanks for being here. We're going to spend the next 30 minutes or so talking about a plant I'm absolutely passionate about, and that is cannabis. Perhaps you have the same affiliation or the same interests.

00;00;38;23 - 00;01;01;17

Gary Johnston

That could be true. But before we get started, let me remind you this potcast is intended for those of legal consumption age in your jurisdiction and is intended purely for entertainment and perhaps educational purposes. You should always consume your cannabis responsibly. In this episode, we talk about what we does to your brain. We'll look at some solutions for the problems cannabis has with waste.

00;01;01;23 - 00;01;20;14

Gary Johnston

And what is the difference between sativa and indica? On Cultivar Corner, brought to you by Up in Smoke. We're trying royal harvest. Red velvet are delicious. All of that and more on episode 212 of the Cannabis Potcast.

00;01;20;16 - 00;01;39;26

Gary Johnston

Thank you so much for being here. I always appreciate the fact that you are a listener of the Cannabis Potcast, and I also want to let you know if you want to make a comment on anything you hear, please send a note to info at Cannabis potcast.com. And if you'd like, you can go to buy me a coffee.com/cannabis potcast if you feel so inclined and you like what you hear.

00;01;39;29 - 00;02;02;25

Gary Johnston

Go ahead and buy me Doobie. Now let's start with today's first story. We're getting this story from the iconic Macom. What happens to your brain when you get high? If you are around in the United States in the 80s and 90s, you may remember the classic anti-drug advertisement. This is your brain on drugs in the short television ad, we see an egg and are told, this is your brain.

00;02;02;27 - 00;02;35;26

Gary Johnston

Then the egg is cracked into a frying pan and the brain gets fried. As the narrator declares this is your brain on drugs. Any questions? Well, we've learned a lot of questions. But instead of oversimplification in frying pans, let's look at the research for answers. Cannabis interacts with your brain via the endocannabinoid system. The X the easy as is primarily responsible for maintaining balance or homeostasis in many of our bodily functions, such as sleep, hunger, pain, inflammation, mood, and memory.

00;02;35;28 - 00;03;11;23

Gary Johnston

The X contains receptors throughout the body, including the brain, which can be activated by endocannabinoids, natural chemicals produced by our bodies, but also cannabinoids from the cannabis plant. Once absorbed into our bloodstream. These chemicals in cannabis, like THC and CBD, are distributed throughout the body where they can cause impressive effects. When THC or CBD trigger reactions in the brain, they can lead to a wide variety of effects, such as slight changes in coordination, euphoria, or feeling anxious, relaxed, disoriented, confused, or high.

00;03;11;25 - 00;03;38;02

Gary Johnston

Your memory can be impaired and pain or nausea may be relieved or heightened depending on the dose. THC is particularly relevant because it affects CB1, a receptor found in many areas of the brain like those responsible for memory. The hippocampus, and emotion, the amygdala. When THC reaches those receptors, it starts a chain reaction that alters certain processes and signals in the body.

00;03;38;05 - 00;04;08;08

Gary Johnston

These processes can also influence neurotransmitters that affect your mood, sleep, and pain, like dopamine and serotonin. This is what caused many of the effects cannabis can have, including pain relief, relaxation, and the euphoria we usually describe as a high CBD. Another prevalent cannabinoid in cannabis works a little differently. CBD can block part of THC effect, altering how it impacts the brain and lessening its disorienting psychotropic effects.

00;04;08;10 - 00;04;32;23

Gary Johnston

In addition, CBD can increase anandamide, known as the bliss molecule, by decreasing certain enzymes that break it down. While there is some evidence that mild cognitive impairment can result from chronic users, the data is fairly inconclusive. Some studies show no differences at all between cannabis users and non-users, while other studies have found mild deficits for long term cannabis users.

00;04;32;26 - 00;05;02;19

Gary Johnston

Notably, these cognitive impairments are far less intense than what we see with alcohol in both the short and long term. There was also evidence that suggests some medical cannabis users, such as those with ADHD or Tourette's, may do better cognitively using cannabis than abstaining from it. Furthermore, if it helps conditions such as chronic pain, depression, anxiety, and or other chronic diseases that impact cognition, it may have a beneficial effect.

00;05;02;21 - 00;05;27;08

Gary Johnston

Cannabis can impact people differently depending on a number of variables, including brain chemistry, which is largely determined by genetics. Those who say cannabis just isn't for me may be on the right track. See, as it may be, a matter of genetics and endocannabinoid tone. While cannabis doesn't actively kill brain cells like alcohol does. Researchers have voiced concerns about its effect on the brain.

00;05;27;10 - 00;05;54;09

Gary Johnston

For one thing, some studies show changes like gray matter reduction to certain parts of the brain. Those changes weren't tied to functional differences between cannabis users and non-users, but it is well-established that gray matter is a very important issue in the brain. There has also been some evidence suggesting that adolescent cannabis use before age 16 is tied to lower IQ by up to six points later in life.

00;05;54;11 - 00;06;18;18

Gary Johnston

Other studies using twins where one twin uses cannabis in one doesn't found that these drops in IQ are necessarily correlated with cannabis use, but might be related to other factors that lead to both lowered IQ and high rates of cannabis use. Still, THC can be addictive for approximate 10% of users because of how it stimulates reward centers in the brain.

00;06;18;20 - 00;06;40;29

Gary Johnston

Evidence suggests that young teens may be more susceptible to the addictive qualities of cannabis than older teens and young adults. Cannabis use has also been tied to an increased risk of developing certain mental conditions like schizophrenia, at least for those who are already genetically predisposed. On the other hand, there is also evidence that cannabis can have positive effects on the brain.

00;06;41;02 - 00;07;08;22

Gary Johnston

One study found that long term cannabis use leads to increased connectivity between certain parts of the brain, which may help compensate for other cognitive deficits it causes. A final consideration is that not all cannabis is created equally. Different team of auras may contain drastically different cannabinoids. Enter beans. Therefore, the effects and risks of one type of cannabis could be very different from the effects and risks of consuming another.

00;07;08;24 - 00;07;28;13

Gary Johnston

So does using cannabis help or hurt the brain? It certainly won't fry it like an egg in a hot pan, but the impacts can often depend on who is using it, how they're using it, why they're using it, and the type of cannabis they're using. An interesting article from the Adcom.

00;07;28;15 - 00;07;32;17

Ian

For the cannabis infused studio In the clouds. This is the cannabis potcast.

00;07;32;18 - 00;08;05;11

Gary Johnston

We picked this story up from stratton.com. It's written by Jonathan Hilt. As Canada's cannabis industry matures. One challenge continues to loom large. Waste from multi-layered plastic containers in glass jars to vape cartridges and outer boxes. The environmental toll of cannabis packaging remains an unsolved issue. While Health Canada mandates strict packaging requirements for safety and compliance, these often translate into materials that are not easily recyclable or biodegradable.

00;08;05;14 - 00;08;31;21

Gary Johnston

Yet some companies and individuals are stepping up to address the problem. One of the most prominent grassroots initiatives is the Purple Bin program, launched by Peter Miller and Tracy Oliver, owners of Purple Hills Farm. More than a symbolic gesture. Their program is taking tangible steps to tackle the growing waste problem head on the Purple Bin program. We describe it as more of a collection program, explains Miller.

00;08;31;23 - 00;08;56;06

Gary Johnston

We find the highest and best use of the things we collect, not limited to just our own packaging. Purple Hills accepts a broad range of cannabis related waste, including cartridges, all in ones, and anything from the cannabis waste ecosystem. According to Miller, they've collected over 20,000 pounds of material to date, with bins placed in approximately 1000 dispensaries across Ontario.

00;08;56;07 - 00;09;20;27

Gary Johnston

The program has been enthusiastic uptake. Dispensaries receive a prepaid shipping label, print it, attach it to the bin and mail it back at Purple Hill's expense. Once we receive it, we do a sort and it's direct to the right place, Miller says. What began as a hopeful experiment has grown rapidly. Purple Hills anticipated potential success, but they didn't expect the scale it reach so quickly.

00;09;21;00 - 00;09;48;05

Gary Johnston

They estimate the annual cost of operating the program is now around $200,000. It's really blown up fast, but also gotten expensive fast, he notes. The feedback from dispensaries, customers and even the Ontario Cannabis Store's social impact team has been overwhelmingly positive. Despite the program's momentum, Miller is realistic about the need for broader collaboration. We can't solve this on our own, he says.

00;09;48;07 - 00;10;19;24

Gary Johnston

He added that there are logical partners in this venture, groups like the Ox, hardware suppliers and to the most grandiose vision, even expanding the program to include vape pods and other products from the e-cigarette sector. Meanwhile, other brands like Kothari are tackling sustainability from the design stage. Working to reduce waste before it's even created. Clearly, packaging is made from backyard compostable biopolymers known as for, says Spencer Graham, VP of sales and operation head, Kothari Brands.

00;10;19;27 - 00;10;48;03

Gary Johnston

These materials break down naturally in 12 to 18 months in your home compost pile, leaving behind no microplastic particulate. Precautionary sustainability is a core principle, not just a marketing feature. Vermont cultivation to our packaging, to our merchandizing itself. We pride ourselves in being sustainable from seed to sale, Goodrum says. It certainly requires additional effort and expense, with limited packaging suppliers and increasingly costly inputs.

00;10;48;05 - 00;11;11;29

Gary Johnston

Maintaining the supply chain has been a challenge, but one we welcomed with open arms. While not every consumer prioritizes eco friendly packaging, those who do have taken notice. Our sustainability issues have helped create loyal fans of our brand, he says. They can enjoy the exceptional quality of our craft cannabis products and feel good about the purchasing decision they made.

00;11;12;01 - 00;11;45;14

Gary Johnston

Kothari is also a pioneering, more responsible vaping options. We've brought to market one of the most environmentally friendly, disposable vapes, Goodrum says. It features a removable, recyclable battery housed in a biodegradable shell made of corn stover. But as innovative as these efforts are, the broader cannabis ecosystem still lacks cohesive recycling infrastructure, something TerraCycle is well aware of. Sustainability continues to evolve in Canada, says Tom Saeki, CEO and founder of TerraCycle.

00;11;45;16 - 00;12;20;12

Gary Johnston

Many companies are exploring recyclable, refillable and compostable designs. These innovations are encouraging, but the systematic collect and process them aren't always in place yet. Well, TerraCycle cannabis programs are currently concentrated in the U.S., psyche says clear potential and urgency for similar solutions in Canada and the U.S., as TerraCycle works with cannabis companies such as Curaleaf and Trulieve to collect and recycle packaging that would otherwise be sent to landfills or incineration, including flexible plastics, pre-roll tubes and multi material containers.

00;12;20;14 - 00;12;48;22

Gary Johnston

One of the biggest opportunities for the cannabis industry is to make packaging easier to recycle, either by using curbside accepted materials or by expanding access to specialized solutions like ours, Suzuki explains. There's also a real opportunity to reduce waste through reuse says he sees great promise in reuse systems such as loop, TerraCycle Global Reuse program, which collaborates with brands to create durable, refillable packaging.

00;12;48;25 - 00;13;23;23

Gary Johnston

He believes the cannabis industry, with its repeated purchases and established in-store retail network, is well positioned to pilot and scale such systems. Still, the sector's regulatory complexity presents challenges. Child resistant features, mixed material packaging and residue contamination make even recyclable materials difficult for municipal systems to process, Psaki says. We need more industry wide collaboration to simplify designs, choose better materials and educate consumers clearly on what can and can't be recycled.

00;13;23;25 - 00;13;53;22

Gary Johnston

Despite meaningful efforts from leaders such as Purple Hills Coterie and TerraCycle, the cannabis industry is still in the early stages of addressing its waste problem. For compostable materials, takeback programs and refillable systems, the solutions exist, but they require alignment, investment and infrastructure to scale. The good news? The momentum is growing. Consumers are becoming increasingly aware, brands are getting more innovative, and environmental stewardship is becoming a key differentiator.

00;13;53;24 - 00;14;09;14

Gary Johnston

The path to a circular cannabis economy won't be easy, but with the right mix of creativity, collaboration and commitment, it's within reach. And that's good news to hear that people at least know that we have a problem with cannabis packaging, and let's look for solutions.

Like that chocolate and lavender. Well, that's what I'm feeling. It's really a lot of lavender in there. Oh, that is just delicious. I can't believe we have not done any of its product up to this point, but we haven't.

00;16;00;23 - 00;16;23;26

Gary Johnston

So I am going to get a couple of joints ready. Well, actually I'll get a single joint ready and then we'll get my dosing capsules and get that ready to pop into my mighty. And once we get this done okay. So this is going to be really nice. Nice buds. Let me take a look at them. Let's give you some, some exposure to what the buds look like.

00;16;24;00 - 00;16;50;27

Gary Johnston

So they are medium buds. Not really big buds, but they are nicely trimmed. Well trimmed, right down to the core. All my buds are just so beautiful looking. I just love that. I can't wait to get high on this. Because I know that Royal Harvest, Mr. Kevin has done some great weed. We did their legends.

00;16;50;29 - 00;17;16;18

Gary Johnston

We got a pack of their legends where we had all of their different doobies, and so that we have done some royal harvest, although we did the unity and not the royal harvest. But now we're doing royal harvest, and it is red velvet. Which is red velvet and runt. And what the combination of those are. So we go to Royal Harvest your growers favorite grower.

00;17;16;18 - 00;17;45;29

Gary Johnston

I love that this is Kevin's line. It just hits differently. In 2023. Royal harvest reaches significant milestone in our journey to become a prominent name in the cannabis industry. Our dedication to crafting top notch cannabis strains earned a recognition of two of the industry's most prestigious events, highlighting our commitment to excellence and innovation in cannabis cultivation. Shabelle Gelati inspirational OG.

00;17;46;01 - 00;18;11;11

Gary Johnston

Let's see if we can find it here. Frosted fruitcake and we don't have anything on the line? Nope. But that's okay. They were winner of the Collector's Cup and the Rosebud Bowl in 2023. Been a milestone year for Royal Harvest. Our commitment to crafting exceptional cannabis strains has been recognized at two of the industry's most prestigious events, the Collector's Cup and the Unicorn Music Festival.

00;18;11;14 - 00;18;36;12

Gary Johnston

The Rosebud Bowl 2023 for frosted Fruitcake and Sherbet, respectively. I have my joint ready. Well, wait for the crafty to open up and let's try some of this. I am really looking forward to it. This is Royal Harvest and Red velvet are.

00;18;36;14 - 00;19;08;04

Gary Johnston

All nice and smooth, I like that. So we got a bit of cherry. I got a little chocolate and I've got some lavender. I love the oh, I love the flavors and the aromas coming out of this bud today. This is wonderful. That take another hit. My mighty is almost up to temperature. Okay, let's try one from the vaporizer.

00;19;08;07 - 00;19;30;02

Gary Johnston

Oh, more of the cherry notes when I come into my vaporizer in the mighty, melted. More of that cherry, more lime. Some more limestone. There is no limestone in here, but there is a bit more of the cherry and a bit of a chocolate and a little bit of lavender.

00;19;30;04 - 00;19;52;20

Gary Johnston

I'm just like. And what that does to the taste, the weed gives me a real nice flowery feeling to this, which is really nice. So my THC is pretty high on this guy. It is sitting at 30 point. Yeah, 30.3. My total Terps are sitting at two. I have a total Terps. I don't have a total Terps.

00;19;52;23 - 00;20;01;23

Gary Johnston

That's okay. I don't need a total Terps. The Terps are good I'm good. So my joints still going.

00;20;01;25 - 00;20;16;06

Gary Johnston

Oh, and it's not causing me any problems in smoking today, which is always nice. I just love that. And we're back to the mighty.

00;20;16;09 - 00;20;47;00

Gary Johnston

Already? Let's see if we are starting to feel some of this in my endocannabinoid system, specifically my CB1 receptors in my brain and down my spinal cord. That's what I'm hoping to feel today. I'm hoping to get a little bit more buzz and a little bit more oomph out of this. This again, is Royal Harvest. They are in the kidneys a little bit east of where, smoker farms are.

00;20;47;02 - 00;21;01;00

Gary Johnston

I think in the Christian Valley. I might be wrong, but who knows? Somewhere close to that. Your growers favorite grower. It just hits different.

00;21;01;02 - 00;21;10;16

Gary Johnston

Oh, I'm really liking this. Really smooth out of my vaporizer.

00;21;10;18 - 00;21;38;20

Gary Johnston

Like in the royal harvest. And it is red velvet. Are because it is a combination of. So here it is cultivated by royal harvest in Duncan, BC. Well, I am wrong on that one. That's that's way wrong from where I thought it was going to be. Great gardener farms so cultivated by Royal Harvest craft cannabis in Duncan, BC.

00;21;38;27 - 00;22;01;16

Gary Johnston

I was just in Duncan a couple weeks ago. I have a cousin who lives in Duncan, has a beautiful spot right down on the ocean. Oh, that was a nice day at a beautiful spot. Okay, I digress. So it comes from Duncan and it is great Gardener Farms who are producing this. Kevin, I'm really enjoying it.

00;22;01;18 - 00;22;39;05

Gary Johnston

Now, what's happening to my endocannabinoid system? Am I feeling some of those? Okay, so this is definitely an indica. And the happy eyes or. Oh, the happy Eyes are coming on there they are more or less trisomy euphoria. This. Oh, there's some euphoria. Let's grab some of that. Oh yeah. And nice. Oh sometimes you want to you finish your toke and you just want to sit back and think, oh, that feels really good.

00;22;39;07 - 00;22;59;03

Gary Johnston

But you know what? It does feel really good, Let me remind you that Cultivar Corner, brought to you by Up in Smoke at 258 West Broadway in Vancouver at It's Up and Smoke A.com where you can go on the web. And if you are 19 years of age or older, you can order something and have it sent to you.

00;22;59;08 - 00;23;21;08

Gary Johnston

And if you live in Vancouver and you order before 2 p.m., you can have it delivered by e-scooter, you could be enjoying your royal harvest. Red velvet are today if you wanted to. Well, yeah, you probably could. I am really enjoying this one.

00;23;21;10 - 00;23;48;07

Gary Johnston

Oh yeah, and now here it is hanging around my endocannabinoid system. I love it. It's just making me feel good. Making me feel like this was worth the effort. Nice little bodies don't have it in here as well. I'm liking the feel of red velvet. It's not real velvet. Yes it is. It's red velvet are from Royal Harvest.

00;23;48;07 - 00;24;32;19

Gary Johnston

That's why I keep calling it red velvet. Because it's kind of red velvet. Oh, I'm really enjoying this. Delicious. I've tried some of Kevin's stuff before. Some reason it hasn't occurred on Cultivar Corner, but we have changed that now. We've made that correct. This is Royal Harvest red velvet. It's an indica. It's 30.3 degrees at 30.0% THC, and it's given me a buzz now that I come back to it, after a little bit of that, it has rolled around in my endocannabinoid system for a while, as it's want to do.

00;24;32;21 - 00;24;58;02

Gary Johnston

It's just one wanting to roll around in my endocannabinoid system. Oh my my my. It is developing into much nicer a deep more in terms of the functional high that I'm feeling in my head. I'm feeling a lot more body energy and a lot more body chill going on. Oh yes. I love it.

00;24;58;05 - 00;24;59;27

Ian

Sharing stories about good weed.

00;24;59;27 - 00;25;27;08

Gary Johnston

While trying good weed. This is the cannabis potcast and for this story we're going to connect Macom. And we're talking about indica versus sativa. When you walk into a cannabis dispensary, there's a very good chance that the first question you'll be asked after you hand over your ID is whether you're looking for a sativa or indica. Your answer is supposed to determine whether you end up purchasing cannabis that is more uplifting or sedating.

00;25;27;11 - 00;25;49;04

Gary Johnston

Of course, choosing the right type of cannabis is vital for achieving the best treatment or experience. It's just that using indica and sativa as the framework for doing so perpetuates one of the biggest falsehoods in the cannabis industry today. Let's be clear sativa and indica are real terms. They just happen to have very little to do with the way they are used in their correct usage.

00;25;49;06 - 00;26;21;22

Gary Johnston

Indica and sativa do refer to different types of cannabis plants, but they actually describe the plants morphology, how it looks and grows, and not its chemical profile or effects. There's very little evidence that these types of variations have anything to do with whether a strain or chemo bar is an indica or sativa to discredit the cannabis industry. There is no perfect alternative to the use of these terms that captures their ease into this city, which is why it will be so difficult to get millions and millions of people to change the way they understand the plant.

00;26;21;24 - 00;26;53;02

Gary Johnston

But there is a better way. Indica, short stature, broad leaves, shorter flowering cycles. Sativa tall stature, narrow leaves, longer flowering cycles. When you have someone labeling something is 70% sativa, 70% indica. It's 100% subjective. It's done by somebody smoking it and deciding that they're getting either an indica or as Ativa effect from it. That's from cannabis cultivator Kyle Cushman.

00;26;53;05 - 00;27;21;27

Gary Johnston

Most people use indicate sativa to denote two spectrums of effects. They are said to cause indica think indica sedating better for sleep, calming and good for anxiety. Body high sativa, on the other hand, is said to be uplifting, energizing, good for a feeling, creativity more of a head high, and better for treating depressive symptoms. The problem is that the plants morphology alone can't tell you everything you need to know about its chemical composition.

00;27;21;29 - 00;27;47;01

Gary Johnston

Furthermore, the indica and sativa classifications were created at a time when scientists didn't have the tools to examine plants chemical composition, so they define them by their appearance, making things even more complicated. Even if in the past there may have been pure indica and sativa, as it did have distinct chemical properties. The way that cannabis has been bred has resulted in a situation where most cannabis plants available today are a hybrid.

00;27;47;01 - 00;28;11;08

Gary Johnston

Of the two, genetic studies have found only a moderate correlation between the ancestry of cannabis strains as reported by breeders and the ancestry inferred from their DNA, writes a cannabis researcher. Arnaud has a camp as a result, the genetic identity of cannabis products could not be reliably inferred by its vernacular name or by its reported ancestry as applied by cannabis growers.

00;28;11;10 - 00;28;36;29

Gary Johnston

That isn't to say that there's no correlation between cannabis marketed as indica or sativa, and the chemical properties that correspond with the effects attributed to them. There is some evidence that certain terrapins are more common in different types, thereby making them distinct, and hence Cab's research a chemical analysis of 68 sativa and 63 indica varieties sourced from the Netherlands found no difference in the average content of CBD and THC.

Instead, the major difference between the two groups was explained by the higher presence of specific terpenes associated with the indica varieties. Interestingly, some of these terpenes act as hormones that regulate plant shape and size, and the research speculates that this may explain the connection between the morphology of indica plants and their specific tripping profile. As mentioned, there are real differences in the types of cannabis you can get these days, but you can't determine those variations based on the species or subspecies.

What matters and what will determine its effect has much more to do with the chemical profile of that particular product. Speaking to the Cannabis Enigma potcast, Doctor Ethan Russo stated at one time, there could have been chemical differences between these different types of cannabis, i.e. indica and sativa, but they all interbred. What we should be dealing with is the chemical composition of the material, and that can only come with an analysis.

It can be deciphered based on what the plant looks like, how tall it is, whether the leaflets are narrow or broad or any of those criteria. Doctor Russo added. We have to know what's in it. What are the predominant cannabinoids and terpenes aids chemo VR is a term that is growing in popularity among scientists and cannabis enthusiasts to describe a type of cannabis based on its unique chemical composition.

To distinguish between different chemo FAS, most scientists will look at the dominant active ingredients. In the case of cannabis, cannabinoids, and beans. The most common cannabinoids are THC and CBD, which also happen to be what most consumers look at first when consuming a cannabis product. THC delta nine tetrahydrocannabinol is the intoxicating cannabinoid that makes users feel high, euphoric, and can reduce pain, anxiety, and inflammation.

However, THC is also responsible for many of the adverse effects of cannabis CBD. Cannabidiol is not intoxicating, but can provide anti-anxiety, antipsychotic, and antidepressant effects. CBD may also reduce inflammation and pain and can counteract some of Tati's unwanted effects. After that comes to beans, which, in addition to smell and taste, are often credited with creating most of the effects often attributed to indica entity.

The whether a key mover is uplifting or sedating with cannabis. It's believed that many of these elements work in concert with each other, called the entourage effect, and can have different or greater effects when combined than when consumed alone. There are over 145 cannabinoids and over 200 turbines that have been found in cannabis plants, so any given strain or quiver in theory as a unique combination in unique ratios.

In reality, even specific chemo bars can have significant variations based on everything from what part of the plant that particular flower grew on, to what time of year it grew, to, what side of the field it grew on, and how much sun it got. People have been cultivating cannabis for millennia, but it wasn't until the Renaissance that a German botanist named Leonard Fuchs coined the term cannabis sativa, which he used to indicate domesticated hemp.

Later in the 18th century, Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus adopted the term cannabis sativa as Hemp's Latin name in his book Species Plantarum, sativa simply means cultivated in Latin, probably referring to the cultivated hemp crops in Europe and western Eurasia that were grown for its fiber and seeds. About 30 years later, John Baptiste Lamarck published a description of what he considered a second species of marijuana named cannabis indica, meaning of India.

In Latin, cannabis indica refers to the wild growing psychoactive variety of cannabis discovered in India used to produce hashish. The marques indigo was not morphologically dissimilar to Linnaeus sativa. However, the distinction changed in the 1970s when ethnobotanist Richard Even Schultz published a picture of short, broad leaved Afghan variety and classified it as cannabis indica. In his Pali Species.

Taxonomic treatment of the genus. At the time, North America and European breeders imported the Afghan variety to take advantage of literally flowering cold tolerance and short, dense stature by hybridizing it with narrow leaved varieties from the tropics, which were known as citizens. To distinguish between the two, the short, broad leaved Afghan variety became known as indica in the vernacular, and the name stuck ever since.

Cannabis indica is traditionally suggested as having a shorter stature, broader leaves, and a shorter flowering cycle. Cannabis sativa plants, on the other hand, had a taller stature with narrower leaves and a longer flowering cycle. Well, these are real distinctions. They're not thought to have anything to do with the chemical profile of the flowers. To make matters worse, even a more complicated third type of cannabis was classified by a Russian botanist.

Rudhyar rallies basically means rubble, as rural plant varieties are the first to grow out of the rubble in areas that have been cleared of other vegetation. River aloes is an auto flowering variety of marijuana that was found to be growing wild in Eastern Europe, first being discovered in Siberia. It also grows in the northern Himalayan Asia. Route. Morales is shorter than cannabis sativa, usually growing to no more than two feet tall.

The plant is branch lists for the most part, although it has a sturdy fibrous stem. Unlike sativa and indica cannabis varieties root around. It has auto flowering abilities. In other words, it does not depend on light conditions to produce flowers and produces them much earlier than other varieties. That's why, despite traditionally being low in THC route, Morales is gaining popularity.

And to finish off that story, we're going to kind of bend a little route. Morales has been incorporated and mixed or rather crossed with indica and sativa, and that's why we have auto flowering plants today, where you can go from seed to harvest in 90 days. In some cases, the root us is why we have auto flowers and why it doesn't need 12 hour light cycles.

And we made it through another episode of the Cannabis Potcast. I'm so happy that we did it. Thank you so much for being here. Why don't we finish with some utterly dead jokes that are utterly dead and utterly deadly? Let's start with the worst dad jokes in the world. This is a game I got for Christmas, and it's been rather intuitive as we've been running through this for the potcast.

00;35;30;00 - 00;35;43;06

Dad, you know how they throw the ball into the crowd after they win the game, son? Yeah dad, I do dad, that's not allowed in bowling. I know that now.

What do you call a bee that lives in America? USB? That's clever. All right, here's the last card. Why were people so disappointed to receive a book as a gift from Cheap Michael? Because they were due back at the library on Friday. And what did the dad say when he saw his first universal remote? Wow. This changes everything, so I apologize in advance.

Thank you so much for being here. From the guy in the clouds. That's it for episode 212 of the Cannabis Potcast.

From the cannabis infused studio high above the Okanagan Valley. This was the cannabis potcast.
