In either case, I am especially happy to have you here. Thanks for coming along for the ride. We're going to spend the next 30 minutes or so talking about a plant that I am absolutely passionate about and have been for many, many years, and that is cannabis.

00;00;42;23 - 00;01;13;27

Gary Johnston

Now, before we get too much further, let me remind you this podcast is intended for those of legal consumption age in your jurisdiction and is intended purely for entertainment and perhaps educational purposes. You should always consume your cannabis responsibly. In episode 217. We learn about turbines and sleep. We look at how microdosing cannabis could benefit you. Subtle changes in alcohol sales since legalization, and a warning to keep your edibles locked up out of the reach of children.

00;01;14;00 - 00;01;31;15

Gary Johnston

We start off on Cultivar Corner, brought to you by Up in Smoke for another old friend from Salt Spring Magic, Timmy's OG shark. All of that and more on episode 217 of the Cannabis potcast.

00;01;31;17 - 00;01;48;03

Gary Johnston

And let me thank you for being a listener of the Cannabis potcast. I'm so happy to have you along for the ride. Let me remind you, if you want to comment on anything you hear on the podcast, you can send a note to info at Cannabis potcast.com. And if you'd like to help, you can go to buy me a coffee.com/cannabis potcast.

00;01;48;04 - 00;02;13;16

Gary Johnston

If you like what you hear and if you're so inclined, you can buy me a doobie. Here's a comment that I haven't. I haven't made much. And this is in regards to stigma about cannabis consumption. In an area where cannabis consumption is legally allowed to smoke, cigarets. And yet I was at an event at the seaside. Typically, I don't name the places, but I'm kind of.

00;02;13;18 - 00;02;55;17

Gary Johnston

I think it's important. See, Cider Farm and cider house. It's insane. In British British Columbia and beautiful wedding. We had a we had a lovely time. It was a wedding in the forest. Some nice grounds they have. It's a great place. I love it. And then when they were getting ready, the MC for the night told me that there was a designated smoking section just outside the hall across that kind of the alleyway from where everybody was gathering, though, and when it was time to, to party up, I moved along to that area and I saw the sign, and then I saw the other sign.

00;02;55;20 - 00;03;02;27

Gary Johnston

Thank you for not consuming cannabis. What?

00;03;02;29 - 00;03;32;19

Gary Johnston

I hate the smell of cigarets. It it nauseated me. I hate to smell them. So why do I have to put up with cigarets and I can't smoke a joint? I'll tell you. I did. I wasn't going to follow that law, since according to our government, it is perfectly illegal for anybody to consume cannabis where they can smoke cigarets.

00;03;32;21 - 00;03;59;15

Gary Johnston

End of story. You can put up an arbitrary decision that. No, we don't want you to smoke cannabis. I suspect it's because there it's cannabis. It's alcohol related. They kind of think that cannabis is contributing to things that they don't like, but they don't understand. It's legal. It really offended me, and I almost put one of my stickers up on top of the sign, but I thought, no, I'll pay for that later.

00;03;59;18 - 00;04;26;06

Gary Johnston

So if you ever go to the C Cider Farm and Cider house, for an event, get ready to to not have your cannabis appreciated. It's another sign of stigma in terms of cannabis. It is prevalent everywhere, even though it's been legal for eight years. It really ticked me off.

00;04;26;08 - 00;04;48;26

Gary Johnston

And we're going back to the consumer.com for our next story. And this is about the best strains and terpenes for sleep. Sleep is foundational to good health impacting our energy levels, cognition and hormone regulation. Yet despite the obvious benefits, nearly 1 in 3 people don't get enough sleep. Hitting the hay is often listed as a reason why people consume cannabis.

00;04;48;27 - 00;05;22;26

Gary Johnston

But does the science support this? Research around cannabis is still a young field and knowledge is changing quickly. There have been some studies around cannabinoids and certain terpene effects on sleep, but most of this research is preclinical, which means it's not tested on humans yet. That doesn't mean you can't consume cannabis to improve your sleep, but it does require purposefully trying certain terpenes and cannabinoid ratios and paying close attention to how different cannabinoid varieties strains affect you to ensure you're consuming the best weed strains for sleep.

00;05;22;29 - 00;05;52;04

Gary Johnston

Here's what you need to know. Cultivars included in this article. And interestingly enough, I've only heard of two of these. Canada Zoo, Bubba Kush, Critical Mass, Stephen Hawking, Kush, Harlequin, which is what I know about, and Harmony Rose. It's estimated that 35% of American adults get less than seven hours of sleep every night. Prolonged lack of sleep can lead to a variety of health issues, including anxiety, depression, diabetes, and obesity.

00;05;52;07 - 00;06;18;00

Gary Johnston

Depending on your symptoms, cannabis may be able to help you improve your sleep quality. The endocannabinoid system is an important regulator when it comes to sleep, and may play an important role in treating age related sleep disorders. A 2018 study examined 409 people who self-reported their cannabis use to combat their insomnia, and researchers found that cannabis use had significant improvements in perceived insomnia.

00;06;18;03 - 00;06;43;08

Gary Johnston

If you're dealing with a lack of sleep from an overactive mind, anxiety or chronic pain, weed strains with sedating, anti-anxiety, and pain relieving properties may be able to help you get the sherry you deserve. Forget strain names and don't lose yourself in the indica sativa debate. These are not reliable indicators of how a strain will affect you to ensure you're using the right strain for a good night's rest.

00;06;43;10 - 00;07;15;13

Gary Johnston

Focus on the chemo type and terpene profiles of the weed. A chemo type is a group of cannabis varieties based on their chemical composition, organized by its most dominant cannabinoid. There were three primary cannabis chemo types. Type one high THC, type two balanced THC and CBD, and type three high CBD. Which trait is best for you? Really depends more on what sleep issue you're dealing with and how well you tolerate THC.

00;07;15;16 - 00;07;38;19

Gary Johnston

When it comes to sleep. As the workforce molecule in cannabis. But while it may be the best molecule for sleep, it can also be quite psychoactive at the wrong dose or ratio. And as such, it's not our first recommendation. While the right cannabis strain for sleep can be hard to find and vary from person to person. Some of the best strains for sleep are type two variations.

00;07;38;22 - 00;08;00;29

Gary Johnston

These balance strains provide a dose of THC to help calm your mind and relax your body, while the CBD provides a balancing effect. Mitigating some of those THC side effects. Of course, everyone has a unique endocannabinoid system and a different tolerance to cannabis. A type one strain may be best for someone who has an overactive mind, or is dealing with PTSD.

00;08;01;02 - 00;08;23;28

Gary Johnston

While a type 3rd May be better for someone who does not like the feeling of THC or is dealing with anxiety. Moreover, some people don't find type two cannabis to be sedating enough or simply don't have access to this type of product, in which case moving to a THC dominant product is appropriate. Using cannabis effectively for sleep also depends on your consumption method.

00;08;24;00 - 00;08;44;14

Gary Johnston

If you struggle with falling sleep, having a toke of type one or type two, strain 30 or 60 minutes before bed may be the best way to wind down. But if staying asleep is the issue, an edible or some cannabis oil may be better suited to the task. Edibles take longer to take effect, but can last longer in your system and help you stay asleep.

00;08;44;14 - 00;09;14;04

Gary Johnston

Longer. The effect will take longer to kick in if you take your cannabis for food, but will also last longer. For daily sleep maintenance, it's usually more helpful to turn to tinctures and edibles over flower, as a tolerance to inhaled flower can build quickly, and the effects typically don't last as long. Of course, as is always the case in cannabis, there is conflicting evidence, and a recent study suggested regular edible use was associated with short sleep duration and overall worse sleep.

00;09;14;07 - 00;09;38;19

Gary Johnston

Type one strains high in THC can be helpful for quickly falling asleep and for improving sleep quality for people with chronic pain. And there is some very early and disputed evidence that THC could be beneficial in treating obstructive sleep apnea. Additionally, THC is thought to increase deep sleep and reduce REM sleep while a reduction in nightmares is a benefit for some with PTSD.

00;09;38;21 - 00;10;06;27

Gary Johnston

You shouldn't rely on THC to the point where you stop dreaming. REM sleep is an important stage in your sleep cycle, and overuse of type one cannabis can negatively change the way you sleep long term. It may come as a surprise, but scientists have limited understanding of how and why strains of cannabis affect us differently. One leading theory is that the cannabinoids work together to produce unique effects, aka the entourage effect, in the body.

00;10;06;29 - 00;10;32;14

Gary Johnston

However, we have a very limited understanding and even less evidence to support this theory. Mostly thanks to prohibition, but also because of the complexity of the topic. If reading mind is keeping you up at night, look for these turbines little myosin and you're pedaling. In the clinical study, little was found to induce sedation by increasing sleep time and decreasing movement in varying doses.

00;10;32;17 - 00;10;58;16

Gary Johnston

Mere seen had a sedative and muscle relaxant effect on mice in one pre-clinical trial. The authors noted that high doses mixing could induce anxiety, and myosin is also thought to amplify the effects of THC. Choppin, a lean extracted from flower oil, was identified as a potent suppressor of the central nervous system. In a 2011 brief clinical trial, the best Europeans to relieve stress or anxiety.

00;10;58;18 - 00;11;35;20

Gary Johnston

If stress or anxiety is what keeps you up late at night. Seek out these turbines. Maybe carry off a lean limonene, then a lull and pining Vinny killing off a lean derived from essential oils had a central nervous depressant and anxiety effect on rodents. Further studies show it was dose dependent anti-anxiety effect. Limonene epoxide aluminum derivative was identified as a new approach for the treatment of anxiety, and a 2012 preclinical trial and daily inhalation of alpha pinning had significant anxiolytic effect in a rodent study.

00;11;35;22 - 00;11;59;24

Gary Johnston

The best Europeans to relieve pain limonene pining, human lean, and Turpin lean. If you want good strains or sleep, the best weed strains for calming your mind are type two chemo vars, where the presence of CBD is high enough to mitigate the effects of the THC, helping you lean into the relaxation without too much anxiety. Strange with this profile include Critical Mass and Harlequin.

00;11;59;26 - 00;12;24;12

Gary Johnston

The best strains for relieving anxiety often type two or type three, where the presence of THC is balanced or secondary to the CBD. Envoy strange with mere seen if you're sensitive to anxiety. Strains with this profile include carrots, zoo and harmony rows, and the best strains to relieve pain are typically type one or type two, depending on your sensitivity to THC.

00;12;24;14 - 00;12;42;17

Gary Johnston

A balance of CBD can help mitigate some of the spacing, as they can come from using THC. Strange with this profile include Bubba Kush and Stephen Hawking. Kush. There were some great information from the Canadian Macom on the best strains and terpenes for sleep.

00;12;42;19 - 00;12;46;22

Ian

From the cannabis infused studio in the clouds, this is the cannabis potcast.

00;12;46;28 - 00;13;17;15

Gary Johnston

In this story we're picking up from Strack and Ockham above, the province is beginning to loosen the grip on alcohol sales. But cannabis remains tightly controlled even as provinces discuss opening up direct trade from some alcohol products across Canada. Cannabis sales remain under the tight control of provincial authorities. Most recently, nine provinces and one territory signed a memorandum of understanding to allow direct to consumer alcohol beverage sales with other participating Canadian jurisdictions.

00;13;17;18 - 00;13;44;25

Gary Johnston

Only Newfoundland Nunavut, Northwest Territories have not yet signed on. The plan is expected to unfold fully by mid-June 26. The plan is expected to unfold fully by mid 2026. The move, well, part of a more long standing effort, has gained considerable headwinds in the wake of recent efforts in Canada to increase domestic and international trade options following U.S. President Donald Trump's efforts of stoking a trade war with Canada.

00;13;44;27 - 00;14;18;11

Gary Johnston

But while the provincial rules around alcohol sales are beginning to loosen the provinces grip on their respective juristic cannabis sales remains as tight as ever. Despite being managed by the same or similar provincial agencies like alcohol, provinces and territories have control over the distribution and sales of cannabis within their borders. Agencies like the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, the Alberta Gaming Liquor and Cannabis, and British Columbia's liquor distribution branch oversee both of these products, along with others in a similar fashion.

00;14;18;13 - 00;14;45;01

Gary Johnston

This means managing which products were available for sale in each province, as well as a warehouse that stores those products prior to their shipment to retailers. Similarly, in 2024, British Columbia and Alberta signed an agreement allowing B.C. wineries to ship their products directly to Alberta consumers. Saskatchewan in British Columbia have in the past allowed a limited form of direct to consumer sales and shipping of wine and craft spirits from producers in the other province.

00;14;45;03 - 00;15;13;02

Gary Johnston

Manitoba is the only province that has long allowed these types of sales entirely. Such jurisdiction authority around alcohol sales has been embedded within Canadian law since Confederation, and is reflected in how the federal cannabis rules share similar authorities with procedures around cannabis production, distribution, and sales. While the federal government primarily regulates the manufacturing of alcohol or cannabis products, the distribution and sales of those products are legally controlled by the provinces.

00;15;13;04 - 00;15;46;09

Gary Johnston

A 2012 court case helped solidify that control. As such, the only cross provincial sales for cannabis are through the federally regulated medical cannabis program, where those with authorization from a doctor can purchase directly from cannabis producers and had that product shipped to their home anywhere in Canada. When the federal Cannabis Act and Cannabis regulations were written, a caveat was created that said the residents of any province that did not have a distribution and sale system in place by the beginning of cannabis legalization would be able to purchase cannabis in a similar method.

00;15;46;11 - 00;16;15;10

Gary Johnston

This did not come to bear, as each province put such systems in place and time. The economic benefit of those kinds of cross provincial sales is unknown, but in 2019, then Federal Minister of Intergovernmental and Northern Affairs and Internal Trade Dominic Borg said that removing barriers to trade between provinces and territories fostered economic growth reduces the regulatory burden on our small and medium sized businesses and creates good middle class jobs across the country.

00;16;15;12 - 00;16;42;11

Gary Johnston

Such changes to provincial cannabis rules could have similar benefits, with cannabis being a comparable sector to alcohol in terms of GDP. It would also likely provide more opportunities for small producers who sometimes struggle to access their own provincial markets due to the complexity of provincial approvals, onboarding and sales. If those same producers could bypass such a process and ship directly to consumers across Canada, it could be a lifeline to struggling businesses.

00;16;42;13 - 00;17;07;21

Gary Johnston

So why the focus on liberating alcohol sales but not cannabis? For one, it's likely due to the popularity of alcohol compared to cannabis among consumers and the general voting public. Opening up alcohol sales will be popular among voters with little pushback. But to push back to doing so for cannabis is likely to be more pronounced, given the continuing presence of stigma and good old fashioned reefer madness in every level of government.

00;17;07;24 - 00;17;23;14

Gary Johnston

So cannabis remains the redheaded stepchild, at least for now. As provinces continue to rake in the majority of profits from distribution and excise tax, and their ego would like not likely going to be able to ship cannabis across the provinces any time soon.

00;17;23;14 - 00;17;31;22

Speaker 3

To see CBD tipping profiles, which give me. Oh, please explain to me.

00;17;31;22 - 00;17;34;21

Gary Johnston

Go to the corner.

00;17;34;23 - 00;17;39;12

Unknown

Go to Oklahoma and go to the corner.

00;17;39;12 - 00;18;02;21

Gary Johnston

Please explain this stuff to me. Welcome to Cultivar Corner. Brought to you by Up in Smoke at 258 West Broadway in Vancouver and online at It's Up in smoke.com. Check them out today if you are 19 years of age or older and you live in B.C., you can have something sent to you. And if you live in Vancouver, you can order by 2 p.m. and you can get it sent by e-scooter today.

00;18;02;22 - 00;18;30;13

Gary Johnston

That's fabulous. So here we are. Welcome. We're doing more Maggi. I can't believe this one slipped through my fingers. And I didn't actually do it on cultivar Corner. What I'm talking about. I'm talking about Timmy's. Oh, g Shak. That's what I'm talking about. And in terms of the Timmy's og Shak, I'm pretty happy about it. I know I had some of it, but I didn't get around to doing it in cultivar corner.

00;18;30;16 - 00;18;59;23

Gary Johnston

So I have changed that. I've now made sure that I can do it and, talk about it on cultivar Corner. So let me get my Timmy's og Shak. Here we go. Oh. I just love the way this stuff smells. Oh, as soon as you put your head into the jar. Oh, it is so old school. It just makes you think weed when you smell it.

00;18;59;25 - 00;19;28;00

Gary Johnston

Oh, really? Really sweet. So, meet Timmy's OG Shak, the strain that's older than your favorite flannel shirt. With a history dating back 30 years and an ancestry shrouded in mystery. It's the wise elder of the cannabis garden when it comes to aroma and flavor. It's like a smoky jazz club, skunk musk and a hint of cigar leaf, the kind of bouquet that make even the hippest cats snap their fingers.

00;19;28;02 - 00;19;54;04

Gary Johnston

As for potency, it's strong enough to make a lumberjack tap out, yet still chill enough to enjoy by the fire. Main terpenes seen near olive oil and limonene are like the old school jazz trio, setting the mood for a mr. logic talk. So light up Timmy's OG shark and take a trip down memory lane, where the air is thick with the scent of history and good vibes.

00;19;54;06 - 00;20;20;11

Gary Johnston

This is Mat's favorite Salt Spring magic cut, and I agree with you, Mike. It's becoming one of my favorites as well. I love smoking the OG shark and I love ending my day with a little OG shark in my brain, in my veins. And then we're going to do a joint. So I've got enough from my proxy. Let's get a joint of that so we can check on the ash on the Timmy's OG.

00;20;20;14 - 00;20;44;03

Gary Johnston

I really love the way this stuff smells. It's just it it. Well, and you know what? It is a you often say if if you go by your nose, you know, whether you want to smoke that as soon as you put your nose into the bag of Timmy Salty Shark, my nose is saying, let me get as much of that in my body as I can.

00;20;44;06 - 00;21;09;11

Gary Johnston

That's when, you know, you have reached the point where this stuff really works like shit for you. Okay, so I got my dosing capsule ready. I have my joint ready. I, I think we are ready for some Timmy's og shark. Let's give it a try. This is Timmy's OG shark. It's from Salt Spring island. The magi sold Spring Island.

00;21;09;14 - 00;21;17;16

Gary Johnston

They're doing a great job. Here we go.

00;21;17;18 - 00;21;32;12

Gary Johnston

And I'm sorry about the noise of the laundry going on today, but, But I had no choice. I had to do some laundry. Oh, and there's my first hit of the Timmy's O.G. shark.

00;21;32;14 - 00;21;43;03

Gary Johnston

Whoa. Nice. It's pretty nice flower we got on the web page. It's up in smoke.

00;21;43;05 - 00;22;06;19

Gary Johnston

Timmy's o g shark. Salt spring. Magic weed. Love sold. Spring. I'm magic. They're just doing some lovely stuff there. So let's get into, the rest of magic. Cannabis. What's happening on Soul Spring Island? Because, in addition to the Timmy's OG shark, they've got a lot of good weed. They really do. They're a small crew of growers and trimmers.

00;22;06;19 - 00;22;31;12

Gary Johnston

Many of them are second generation cannabis producers. Their aim is a premium flower with the delightful smoking experience, always looking for a flower that perfectly characterizes the great qualities of a particular variety in aroma, taste and effect, as well as a consistently smooth burn. So I've got the joint going and I'm looking at my ash, and I got some nice gray ash on there.

00;22;31;12 - 00;22;44;15

Gary Johnston

There's no black in there. That's a nice piece. And now let's try it from the mighty.

00;22;44;17 - 00;22;58;14

Gary Johnston

Oh ho. And talk about old school flavor and old school taste that are coming to you. Oh, yeah. Definitely get a little. Get.

00;22;58;17 - 00;23;25;09

Gary Johnston

Oh, my, my, my. And so again, the the turbines involved in Timmy's OG shark are, Miocene and Corolla doll and limonene. A little bit of a skunk taste skunk taste musk, some cigar leaf. And, yeah, there is a bit of skunk as you're putting that into your lungs.

00;23;25;12 - 00;23;39;19

Gary Johnston

On that heavy machine, there's so much of an earthy component in there. It just tastes like great cannabis. I love having the taste of that in my mouth.

00;23;39;21 - 00;24;09;08

Gary Johnston

Oh, that's really nice. Oh, I love that too. The vaporizer. It is just such a sweet taste. Almost skunky, almost musky. Doit is appropriate in the amount of ash that is letting go. I still haven't seen any of the black, and I've got a half inch. Got about a half inch ash on there now, and I'm tapping that into the ashtray and it dropped off really nicely.

00;24;09;10 - 00;24;38;06

Gary Johnston

Oh, what is this? Let me see. What is this one THC on? This guy is at 26.4%. That's pretty good, because I know a lot of the stuff we get from solid spring is a little lower in THC because it still works. But I have to say the 24 or the 26.4% is really working nicely right now.

00;24;38;06 - 00;25;03;02

Gary Johnston

I have to tell you. Oh yeah. Oh, I'm buzzing on that one. Oh, this is definitely down on the indica side. If we can go in rather than putting a label on it, it's going to be more of a, the harmonizing, more enhancing of spending time in a place where we want to spend some time and we want to cool, we want to be chill.

00;25;03;02 - 00;25;22;28

Gary Johnston

And that's what we're going to do with the Timmy's OG Shak. And I'm feeling a bit of body storm coming in. I've got euphoria coming in. I got some happy eyes. I'm feeling really good. I don't know where else I can go from there.

00;25;23;00 - 00;25;55;17

Gary Johnston

That is really, really good. I really enjoy the stuff that's coming from Maggi and Soul Spring Island. They do some wonderful weed. Let's remember to remind you that Cultivar Corner is brought to you by Up in Smoke at 258 West Broadway in Vancouver, and online at It's Up and Smoke Calm, where if you are 19 years of age or older and you live in BC, you can go right on there and order yourself some Timmy's og shak and have it sent to you or order by 2 p.m. and you can get it delivered by e-scooter that very day.

00;25;55;17 - 00;26;21;05

Gary Johnston

That's pretty cool and they're doing great service. It up in smoke. I really love the things that they're doing. Matt and Sara at the store. So what do you love about Timmy's O.G. Shak oh my my my. This is another day where I think, oh boy, I am so happy to be doing Cultivar Corner. And now I've let it sit in my endocannabinoid system for a while.

00;26;21;07 - 00;26;37;00

Gary Johnston

Oh. The smile was just plastered on my face and so is that smile inside my body. This just feels wonderful. I really, really enjoy the Timmy's OG Shak. Ha! It's time to have a fantastic.

00;26;37;00 - 00;26;39;17

Ian

Day sharing stories about good weed.

00;26;39;17 - 00;27;05;27

Gary Johnston

While trying good weed. This is the cannabis potcast and we're going to connect McCollum for a story on microdosing, what it is and why you might be interested. The medical benefits of cannabis and its active ingredients like THC and CBD are hard to deny. So if cannabis is working well for your medical conditions, you might think that the more cannabis you take, the better it will work for relieving your symptoms.

00;27;05;27 - 00;27;33;06

In the midst of a cannabis market with increasingly potent cannabis options, some are choosing a different route. Instead of increasing their cannabis intake, they're scaling it back with something called microdosing. What is microdosing? Microdosing is the practice of taking a much smaller dose of a medication than is normally used. It's a practice used all kinds of compounds, but most often discussed with psychoactive substances such as LSD.

Recently, people have started to apply the practice to cannabis and its popular ingredient, THC and CBD. One recent clinical trial found that microdosing just one milligram of THC and even 0.5mg was effective at relieving chronic pain. One reason for microdosing weed is that taking a small amount may help to access its helpful effects without engaging negative side effects, like a psychoactive high.

00;28;00;22 - 00;28;30;22

But microdosing cannabis is also helpful for those who are trying to avoid triggering the wrong side of something called a biphasic effect. To explain this simply, when a substance like THC has a biphasic effect, it means that it can produce two opposing effects depending on the dose of the substance. Taking. Consider, for example, alcohol, which at low doses might make someone feel a bit energized, happy, and chatty, but at high doses might have them sedated, depressed, and antisocial.

00;28;30;25 - 00;28;57;27

Gary Johnston

For many substances, this biphasic effect are important because the dose taken can drastically impact the effect it has on the human body. And with cannabis, multiple biphasic effects have been noted. Cannabis. Two most common and popular ingredients, THC and CBD, have been noted to have a variety of biphasic effects. One of the most commonly reported biphasic effects from cannabis is Tati's effect on anxiety.

00;28;57;29 - 00;29;19;18

Gary Johnston

Well, many report cannabis can help ease their anxiety. Others say that it makes them more anxious and paranoid. The science supports these claims, showing that dosing can make a big impact on how cannabis and its components affect anxiety. Studies on both animals and humans have found that while lower doses of THC tend to relieve anxiety, higher doses can spike.

00;29;19;18 - 00;29;48;04

Gary Johnston

It. For example. Internet. One animal study mice given low doses of THC, spent more time in open areas than controls, an indication of reduced anxiety, while those given high doses of THC spent less time in those stressful spaces, suggesting increased anxiety. In one human study, a group of 42 patients were given a placebo, a low dose of THC 7.5mg or a high dose of THC 12.5mg.

00;29;48;06 - 00;30;13;27

Gary Johnston

Then they were subjected to various stress induced tests and asked to rate their stress. Those in the low THC group showed reduce stress during these tests, but those who had the higher dose were more likely to have increased stress. In another human study, a group of incarcerated patients with PTSD were given even lower doses four milligrams others synthetic cannabinoid NAB alone, which mimics these effects.

00;30;13;29 - 00;30;56;23

Gary Johnston

Researchers found this low dose resulted in significant improvement in PTSD. Associate IT insomnia, nightmares, general symptoms, and even chronic pain. Still, despite success treating anxiety conditions at these lower doses, the average dosing for cannabis products is around ten milligrams, which might be too high for some. And it's not just anxiety. They can benefit from microdosing. Biphasic effects from THC have been noted for pain, temperature regulation, motivational processing, appetite, novelty seeking, and locomotion and exploration by physic responses have also been found for CBD, with effects like pain, sedation, nausea and vomiting, relief and immune responses.

00;30;56;25 - 00;31;24;02

Gary Johnston

For many, cannabis effects, a lower dose might be the most effective option. How to microdose cannabis microdosing can be very helpful for some, and the research on biphasic effects suggested could be particularly helpful for patients dealing with pain, appetite, energy or mood related issues like anxiety and depression. As we've seen, all these issues are common reasons for cannabis use that have strong dose dependent, biphasic reactions.

00;31;24;04 - 00;31;53;06

So microdosing can be a great way to hone in on optimal dose. When microdosing, patients are advised to use the smallest dose they can, which might be a small payoff with an inhaled method like smoking or vaping, or a dose around 2.5mg for edibles or sublingual options. There are a few downsides to microdosing weed when compared to taking larger doses in terms of risk factors, but for some, right away dosing might not be the best option.

00;31;53;08 - 00;32;15;08

Gary Johnston

Some patients actually do need a larger dose to effectively manage their condition. Take, for example, studies on migraines, which show that relief is usually achieved only after high doses around 20mg. Still in the process of finding the optimal dose, starting with microdosing can be helpful. By starting low, a patient can slowly increase their dosing to find an optimal dose.

00;32;15;14 - 00;32;34;14

Gary Johnston

If they go up, they may find that the symptoms they are treating improve, but at a certain point, if they continue to increase, they are likely to hit a dose where the cannabis is actually causing negative symptoms. If this happens, they can return to that last dose that relieve their symptoms. For some, a micro dose may actually be the most effective option.

00;32;34;17 - 00;32;58;11

Gary Johnston

This is important because there can be big differences in how individuals respond to cannabis, in addition to condition related differences in the cannabis needed, there are also differences in how sensitive individuals are to the effects of cannabis because of genetic differences and differences in previous cannabis experience, which can make you tolerant to its effects. So an optimal dose for one patient might be two milligrams.

00;32;58;13 - 00;33;21;02

Gary Johnston

Well, for another patient, it might be more like 20mg. Either way, if you aren't sure what your optimal dose is, starting low and slowly increasing is the best way to find out. If you think microdosing cannabis might be right for you, talk with a practitioner who specializes in cannabinoid medicine. They can help make sure you're on the right track before you begin or change any cannabis regimen.

And that's a great story from the clinic Lidcombe. If you feel like giving microdosing a try.

We're going to for 20 until Xcom for the next story. And this is about a two year old child who overdosed on Death Bar. Now, before I go any further, he was okay. He was released from hospital at the end of this. An alarming incident involving a two year old child who ingested part of a marijuana edible has raised serious concerns about the importance of safe cannabis storage in homes.

00;33;53;02 - 00;34;23;05

Gary Johnston

According to police reports, the child was found in distress approximately two weeks ago, prompting an emergency response from both police officers and firefighters. The child was rushed to the hospital, treated and fortunately released after recovering from the incident. However, the consequences extended beyond the medical emergency. The parent of the child is now facing legal charges for acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17, a misdemeanor offense under child protection laws.

00;34;23;07 - 00;34;55;02

Gary Johnston

While the child is safe, the situation highlights the growing number of accidental cannabis exposures involving young children, often due to improperly stored edibles. As cannabis becomes more accessible through equalization across many states, cases of accidental ingestion have been rising, particularly among children under the age of five. Cannabis infused edibles, which often come in the form of candies, gummies, cookies, or brownies, are especially problematic because they closely resemble treats that appeal to kids.

00;34;55;05 - 00;35;30;15

Young children who consume marijuana, even in small doses, can experience serious health effects. Symptoms may include lethargy, confusion, difficulty walking, vomiting, slow breathing, or even in severe cases, loss of consciousness. Unlike adults, children's bodies are not equipped to handle THC, the psychoactive compound in cannabis, leading to heightened reactions and more severe complications. This case serves as a strong reminder for all cannabis users, especially those with children in the home, to adopt secure storage practices.

00;35;30;18 - 00;35;56;09

Gary Johnston

Experts recommend keeping cannabis products in child resistant containers and storing them in high locked locations, out of sight and reach. Law enforcement and child safety advocates continue to urge parents and caregivers to treat cannabis with the same caution as other potentially harmful substances, like medications or cleaning products. Failing to do so can result not only in health emergencies, but also legal repercussions, as shown in this case.

00;35;56;12 - 00;36;21;00

Gary Johnston

As the legal cannabis industry grows, so does the responsibility of adults to ensure it's handled responsibly, especially around children. Preventing accidental exposure begins at home with simple yet critical steps to keep cannabis products out of reach. This incident could have ended much worse, and it serves as a cautionary tale for all cannabis using households. And that includes yours, and that includes mine.

We have to be better at putting cannabis edibles, especially edibles, in away area where they cannot be accessed by any infant or children at any age. I go on exploring the world of Canadian.

We're still going through it. This is the worst dad jokes. And we start with why did the coffee call the police? Because it got mugged. Why were people so excited when the shovel was invented? Because it was groundbreaking. And one more. At two more. Actually, dad used to hate the idea of having a beard, but it grew on him, as I suspected.
